Innovative projects in the field of biotechnology will be widely presented at the Ministerial Conference of the Central European Initiative on Science and Technology "Biotechnologies for Healthy and Active Life in the CEI Region". This was announced today at the press conference in the National Press Center by Alexander Shumilin, Chairman of the State Committee on Science and Technology of the Republic of Belarus. According to him, the upcoming conference aroused a great interest among the representatives of the scientific and business community.

‘To date, more than 40 Belarusian high-level experts have announced their participation in the event. 11 states of the 18 member countries of the CEI confirmed their participation. In the near future, we expect decisions on participation from representatives of Bulgaria, Italy, Macedonia, Serbia, Montenegro and the Czech Republic,’ Alexander Shumilin said. He also noted that it is expected to discuss possible mechanisms for financing the cooperation on biotechnological areas and prospects for partnerships between science and industry within the conference, in particular, concerning Horizon 2020, COST, COSME, HEALTH and other programs of the European Union. During the first three years of the Horizon 2020 program, Belarusian scientists became partners in 30 projects and received about 6 million euros. ‘These funds contribute to the extrabudgetary funding of Belarusian science,’ he stressed.

The conference will be held in Minsk at the President Hotel on October 26. One of the most important topics of the event is the development of biotechnologies, which are at the service of medicine, pharmacy, food industry and agriculture. It should be noted that Belarus in 2017 chairs at the Central European Initiative.
