Minsk hosts fifth meeting of the Commission on the formation of a single scientific and technological space of the Union State

Scientific, technical and innovative cooperation within the Union State is one of the cornerstones, the foundations of the interaction of the two countries. This was reported by Alexander Shumilin, Chairman of the State Committee on Science and Technology of the Republic of Belarus, at the fifth meeting of the Commission on the formation of a single scientific and technological space of the Union State. According to him, more than half of the Union State budget, which is formed annually (about 5 billion rubles), is spent on Union State programs. “These are, first of all, those programs that create new innovative products. For example, new high-speed computers, developments in the field of space, medicine, biotechnology, new materials,” he said.

In 2019, Belarus and Russia are implementing seven joint programs. A number of new draft concepts for programs are currently being developed. These programs correspond to almost all promising areas for Belarusian-Russian scientific research: intellectual information analysis systems; new laser materials and technologies, optoelectronics and microelectronics; space; multifunctional unmanned aerial systems; ultra-high energy storage devices and drives based on them; nanoindustry equipment; additive technologies (3D printing); products of deep processing of peat and sapropels; physiologically active substances in the pharmaceutical industry; regenerative medicine technologies; technologies for the prevention of human dysfunctions, including under the conditions of negative technological and environmental factors.

Alexander Shumilin also said that 18 applications were accepted for the Union State Prize in the field of science and technology. The received documents will be considered by members of the expert council, whose meeting will also be held in Minsk. “The Union State Prize in the field of science and technology was established to stimulate joint scientific activity. This year, for the first time, we held a competition for the award of the prize and plan to present it in April 2021,” the SCST Chairman said.

Note: The SCST and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, with the support of the Union State Standing Committee, held a competition from February 15 to April 1, 2019 for the Union State Prize in the field of science and technology. The prize (5.0 million Russian rubles) is awarded once every two years to three laureates.

The Commission for the Formation of a Single Scientific and Technological Space of the Union State is carrying out its activities in accordance with the Decree of the Council of Ministers of the Union State of June 16, 2017 No. 19 “On the main directions of the formation of a single scientific and technological space of the Union State”.
