Belarus and Russia will prepare a new intergovernmental bilateral agreement on scientific and technical cooperation. This was discussed today during the meeting of the Chairman of the State Committee on Science and Technology of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Shumilin with the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Valery Falkov. The current agreement between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus was signed in 1996 and, in the opinion of the parties, is subject to updating.

“We live in a rapidly changing world, in the world of high technologies and information. Due to the covid-19 pandemic and the subsequent upheavals in society, many innovations have become even more in demand. What is now everyday did not exist in the late 1990s. Therefore, it is necessary to form progressive legislation in order to follow the realities of modernity in the era of digitalization, where new trends, tendencies and technologies appear, aimed at various spheres of life of the scientific community and citizens of our states", stressed Alexander Shumilin.

During the meeting, the sides also discussed the implementation of scientific and technical programs of the Union State, which correspond to the priority areas of the formation of a single scientific and technological space. We are talking about joint projects in the field of space, medicine and biotechnology, information and communication technologies, new materials and equipment, additive technologies, etc.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to hold the next meeting of the Commission on the formation of a single scientific and technological space by the end of 2021.
