The share of exports of high-tech products increased by 20% last year

The share of exports of high-tech products in value terms increased by 20% and reached nearly 14 billion USD last year. Alexander Shumilin, Chairman of the State Committee on Science and Technology, announced this before the solemn ceremony of awarding the winners and laureates of the BCCI contest “Development of the Export Potential of Belarus” among the media.

‘Today, Belarus cannot be developed dynamically without foreign markets and export deliveries. We have talented people and high-tech products. Last year, we seriously increased its exports: according to preliminary results, in 2018 we supplied high-tech products to almost 14 billion USD.

The growth rate is 20%. This is a significant amount. After the adoption of Decree No. 8, we seriously increased the export of IT services: the document enabled us to increase exports by 40%, to almost 1.5 billion USD last year. We have significantly expanded our geography and entered new markets. Today, Belarus supplies products to almost 180 countries, this suggests that our country is known far beyond its borders, and we earn good money on this.’

According to Alexander Shumilin, the share of exports of high-tech products amounted to 33.2%, which is more than one percentage point than in 2017. Spain and African countries are among the new export markets for such products. The list of the most popular high-tech products from Belarus includes instrument-making components, microcircuits, medical devices, BelAZ-drones, electric buses, etc.
