The State Committee on Science and Technology of the Republic of Belarus and the Ministry of Science, ICT and Long-Term Planning of the Republic of Korea will hold a contest of joint scientific and technical projects for 2017-2019. This was announced by Alexander Shumilin, Chairman of the State Committee on Science and Technology of the Republic of Belarus, during the meeting with Lee Ben Gwon, the president of the Korean Institute of Science and Technology (KIST).

According to him, the applications are accepted from August 1 to September 28, 2017 in the following priority areas of the bilateral Belarusian-Korean cooperation: nuclear energy, aerospace, biotechnologies, new materials and additive technologies.

In turn, the president of the KIST Lee Ben Gwon said that the Korean Institute of Science and Technology consists of a number of research institutes, which, in turn, consist of research centers. He noted that the parties can create joint research centers and laboratories for the implementation of scientific and technical projects of mutual interest, primarily in the field of microelectronics, medicine and physiology.

The contest of joint Belarusian-Korean scientific and technical projects is held in accordance with the intergovernmental agreement on the economic, scientific and technical cooperation of May 17, 2004.

The Korean Institute of Science and Technology was established in 1966 as the first scientific and technical research institute in the country and continues to play a leading role in this field.

The main mission of the KIST is to find solutions to overcome global challenges such as the population aging, as well as the limited energy, the food and other resources with the help of advanced scientific research.
