The Belarusian-Latvian Forum on Science, Innovation and Investments held in Minsk

About 100 representatives of scientific community, industrial enterprises and state governing bodies take part in the second Belarusian-Latvian Forum on Science, Innovation and Investments that is held today in the Belarusian National Technical University.

Alexander Shumilin, Chairman of the State Committee on Science and Technology of the Republic of Belarus, greeted the participants and guests of the Forum.

He said that such events not only extend the bilateral scientific-technical and innovative cooperation, but also favor the promotion of technologies and science intensive products to the foreign markets.

‘Belarus and Latvia are not such big states which have enough of mineral resources, but they possess a considerable scientific-technical potential and may unite for the implementation of prospective hi-tech projects,’ said Alexander Shumilin.

 According to him, the State Committee on Science and Technology of the Republic of Belarus and the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Latvia work on the conclusion of on scientific-technical cooperation.

At present, the document has been passed to the Latvian part for consideration and harmonization. Alexander Shumilin, the Chairman of the SCST, also said that Belarus and Latvia finance seven joint research projects on the areas which priority for both countries.

First of all, these are projects in the field of chemistry and pharmacy, nanotechnologies, biotechnologies and ecology. The Belarusian-Latvian Forum on Science, Innovation and Investments is held on December 11-12, 2014 in Minsk. The State Committee on Science and Technology of the Republic of Belarus, the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus, the Belarusian National Technical University, the PI “Scientific-Technological Park of the BNTU “Politekhnik”, the Belarusian Innovative Foundation, the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Latvia and the Belarusian-Latvian Technology Transfer Center act as the organizers of the event.

The Forum is held with the support of the Embassy of Belarus in Latvia and the Embassy of Latvia in Belarus. The workshop “On the Potential and Opportunities of Cooperation of Belarus and Latvia in Science and Technology” and the presentation of educational scientific-technical potential of the universities of Belarus and Latvia.
