The winners of the National Contest of Innovative Projects awarded in Minsk

A ceremony of awarding of the winners and laureates of the 5th National Contest of Innovative Projects took place at the State Committee on Science and Technology of the Republic of Belarus.

Opening the event, the Chairman of the SCST Alexander Shumilin said that the main goal of the contest is to stimulate innovation and commercialization of research and development and to commercialize the results of scientific-technical developments.

According to him, the submitted innovative projects met the priorities for scientific and technological activities in the country.

It should be noted that this year the competition was held in four stages:

the evaluation and selection of projects among the winners of the Republican youth project “100 ideas for Belarus” and other national competitions, approved by the board of the competition for the participation in the competition this year;

the consideration of a working group of materials of innovation projects submitted to the contest;

the examination of innovative projects;

the determination of the winners of the contest.

A distinctive feature of the competition of 2014 is the introduction of significant changes into the Regulations on the Republican Contest of Innovative Projects adopted by the Resolution of the Council of Ministers no. 538 of June 4, 2014.

This Resolution of the competition assigned functions of the main Republican competition of revelation and promotion of young, talented and promising professionals to the contest.

An additional stage enabling to draw the winners of other national youth competitions held by the Ministry of Education, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, other state bodies and the Belarusian Republican Youth Union was introduced.

The number of winners and prize-takers of the competition has been increased. The amount of remuneration and bonuses for them has been increased.

The possibility of the further commercialization of the best innovative projects with the obtaining of a certificate of money has been implemented within the contest.

The Chairman of the SCST Alexander Shumilin also noted that a record number of applications was submitted over the history of the competition. It’s 164 applications. 46 projects of them were in the “Best Innovative Project” category, and 118 projects were in the “Best Youth Innovative Project”. The participants of the National Youth Project “100 Ideas for Belarus” took part in the contest.  

The public association “Belarusian Republican Youth Union” submitted 73 applications.

The biggest number of the submitted applications is in the field of ecology and environmental management, construction and energy problems, IT- technologies, healthcare, social and economic problems.

79 projects were sent for further expertise to the state expert boards.

29 of them are in the “Best Innovative Project” category, and 50 projects are in the “Best Youth Innovative Project” category.

The projects are divided into the following basic groups in accordance with their subject area:

1)         informatization, computing facilities and information technologies  (15 projects (19%);

2) technologies of chemical, pharmaceutical and microbiological productions (14 projects (17%);

3) instrument-making, radio electronics and optics (12 projects (15%);

4) machine-building and metalworking (9 projects (11%);

5) production, processing and preservation of agricultural products (9 projects (11%);

6) problems of building and energy (9 projects (11%);

7) healthcare  (7 projects (9%);

8) socio-economic problems and the issues of the development of the statehood of the Republic of Belarus (4 projects (5%);

9) ecology and natural resource management (2 project (2%).

According to the results of the expertise 30 projects reached the finals, 14 projects are in the “Best Innovative Project” category, and 16 projects are in the “Best Youth Innovation Project” category.  

According to the results of the presentation and protection of projects, the winners and prize-takers of the contest in two categories were determined at the meeting of the National Contest of Innovative Projects on 19 December 2014.

There is 1 winner and 5 winners in each category, 2 projects are on the 2nd place, and 3 projects are on the 3rd place.

The authors of these projects will be awarded prizes and cash awards of 16.5 million Belarusian rubles, 11.0 million Belarusian rubles and 5.5 million Belarusian rubles for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd places respectively.

Taking into account the level of the developments and significance for the Republic of Belarus proposed in the draft decisions on the most important areas of scientific and technical activities the Competition Council decided to establish a special category of the SCST.

“We should note the high level of the preparation of submitted materials as well as the depth of elaboration of the issues of scientific and technical activities the innovative projects were announced in.

We thank all the participants for their interest for the competition. We hope that many projects will find investors and will have been successfully implemented in the real sector of the economy of our country,’ said Alexander Shumilin.

The decision of the Board of the National Contest of Innovative Projects of  December 19, 2014 determines the winners and prize-takers of the National Contest of Innovative Projects in the “Best Innovative Project” category:
