Belarusian science takes a worthy place in the world scientific space - Shumilin

Belarusian science takes a worthy place in the world scientific space, and in some areas - ICT, nanotechnology and nanomaterials, medical equipment, genetics and biotechnology - forms new development trends. This was announced today at a meeting with graduates of the educational institution «Lyceum No. 1 named after A. Pushkin» by the Chairman of the State Committee on Science and Technology of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Shumilin. According to him, the republic is currently actively developing domestic technologies based on the fifth and sixth technological modes, including in the field of bio- and nanotechnology, robotics, virtual reality technologies.

«We stake on building a knowledge economy and an innovative way of development, however, it is impossible to do this without involving young people in scientific and innovative activities, training appropriate personnel», said Alexander Shumilin. For this, effective support mechanisms have been created, including financial incentives to attract talented youth to science and innovative entrepreneurship. In particular, the Republican competition of innovative projects is held annually in the nomination «The best youth innovative project», the winners of which receive financial support for the implementation of innovative projects and the results of scientific activities. A feature of this competition is the opportunity for the winners of the Republican Youth Competition «100 Ideas for Belarus» to participate in it. The subjects of innovation infrastructure, in particular technology parks, are dynamically developing, where young people can realize their ideas and create their own business. In addition, annually by the order of the Head of State, scholarships are allocated to talented young scientists performing research and development. This year, 98 young scientists will receive such scholarships.

«Support of talented and creative youth, development of youth science in general is our main task. The state will always find an opportunity to support the young generation of Belarusians, for whom science is not only a profession, but also a vocation. And you should know about this», stressed Alexander Shumilin.

During his visit to Brest, the Chairman of the State Committee for Science and Technology also met with graduate students, undergraduates and teachers of the Brest State University named after A.S. Pushkin and held a personal reception of citizens at the Brest Regional Executive Committee.
